Once again it was time to welcome the new members, and once again the coach driver decided to tackle THAT bridge, leaving us over an hour behind schedule before we'd even started walking. I took a large-ish (not as large as some ahem!) group from Edale across to the north edge of Kinder Scout before coming down to Hayfield.

CUHWC Cwm Dyli (Easter Trip)
My first Easter trip with the club. Weather not great but manageable, along with Monday's glorious sunshine! Saturday - somewhere with Dave G, Sarah I, Mai & Johannes. Sunday - up the Watkin path with Thijs & Jo but unfortunately had to turn back due to bad weather, slippy footings and regular loss of path(!) Monday - superb views under clear sky in the Carneddau area with Alex, Ruth, Arathi & Thijs. Tuesday - typical downpour meant we had to abandon the "sunrise on Snowdon" plan, but enjoyed the day in Betws before an evening walk up the Pyg Track to the snowline... Many thanks to Alex, DC, Ruth, Alison & Tom for a truly memorable celebration!

CUHWC Eskdale
The committee handover trip, staying just outside Boot, Eskdale. Saturday's walk went up snowy Scafell via Great How (NOT Slight Side like EVERYONE else!), even if I did manage to take everyone the wrong way twice, then on Sunday a blast from the past courtesy of Michael & Ruth, then up Hardknott, Harter & Green Crag, arriving back just in time to see the minibus leave(!)

CUHWC Rhydd Ddu
You can always rely on a CUHWC trip to clear out a rotten cold :-) Saturday's mainly clear and mild conditions saw a route up the Pyg Track then round via Y Lliwedd, while on Sunday I took a group on a low-level bimble through Beddgelert Forest (or at least what was left of it!) and around Llyn-y-Gader.

CUHWC Seathwaite (New Year Trip)
Cars have feelings you know. It's true - mine absolutely detests the Seathwaite trip. 2 breakdowns in 2 years, nice. Then my camera felt left out with all the attention the car was getting and decided to break too. On the other hand some great walks as always, and finally got up Scafell Pike whoohoo!

Derwent & Ambleside
A post-New-Year, pre-Seathwaite trip to the Northern and Central Fells, complete with mucho Wainwright bagging courtesy of Alex & David. Starting with Alistair and Alex on Monday at YHA Derwentwater, joined by Alison on Tuesday and Michael on Wednesday for an epic 2-night wild camp, Alistair departing on Thursday, and David & Ruth arriving on Friday for 2 nights at Ambleside Backpackers - phew!. See Alex's photos for a full-blown, minute by minute account of the week! Apologies must go to my car, for the emotional (and perhaps even physical!) scarring caused by the World & his rucksack crammed inside on several occasions(!)

Mwahaha! First club trip with the new camera, and it snows too!! Cue 98 photos in one weekend, as if I didn't take enough normally(!) Sadly I never got around to labelling these up and have now completely forgotten where I actually went, but this was certainly a much needed break from IDP (Evil!), having been deprived of previous trips this term due to Navy commitments and illness.
15th Nov 2005CUHWC Formal at Emmanuel College
Certainly the most expensive formal so far, but coming from Caius who's complaining? Spent a while in the huge bar (with those really big chairs!), bringing back May Ball memories, then off to David P's for more alcohol and a spot of climbing(!)
16th Oct 2005CUHWC Edale (Day Trip)
Wow, a year in the club already. Only one person wanted to go on my walk, so we ended up merging with Rob's group for the day. The weather held out quite nicely for us, and we've since had plenty of new members come back on other trips - so we did something right!!
2nd Feb 2005CUHWC Formal at Jesus College
Wow, was it really a term and a half before my first formal? A great meal, even if you did need an ice axe to get into the creme brulee(!) The college bar looked newly refurbished, then it was all back to Prince Harry's for the Cow Song, Bohemian Rhapsody, American Pie and more Cow Song!
